Edumap.io Containerized Microservices Migration
Author: Vishal Verma (Cloud, Network & Systems Engineer, Sydney, NSW) | Category: Systems & DevOps Engineering | Key Metric: -70% Deployment Time
Technology Stack: Linux, Nginx API Gateway, Docker, Microservices, CI/CD
Overview
Migrated legacy monolithic geospatial mapping services to a containerized Linux & Docker microservices architecture.
Architecture & Technical Implementation
Edumap.io provides geospatial data and routing for educational institutions. The legacy monolithic server architecture struggled to keep up with peak semester traffic and frequent deployment cycles.
I led the migration to a containerized microservices architecture on Linux using Docker and an Nginx reverse-proxy API Gateway with rate-limiting, caching, and zero-downtime blue/green container swaps.
Key Outcomes
Reduced deployment times by 70%, eliminated single points of failure, and significantly improved p95 response latency.
